Before running payroll, take a moment to ensure all team members have entered their sales accurately, including the correct written dates, issue dates, and premium amounts, and logged all activities, especially any linked to bonuses. Since bonus calculations are based on this information, even small errors or oversights can affect payroll totals.
Best Practices Before Running Payroll
- Verify that all team members have entered their sales for the payroll period.
- Confirm all sales include accurate written dates, issue dates, and premium amounts.
- Review the Bonus tab to ensure bonuses and commissions are displaying accurate commissions.
- Check for any missing sales, duplicate sales, or incorrectly entered data.
- Review bonus calculations regularly throughout the month instead of waiting until payroll day.
- Encourage your team to keep FrontRunner up daily and enter their sales and activity data in real time.
- If at any point a commission or bonus amount is displaying incorrectly, please submit a Bonus Issue Form as soon as possible so our team can investigate and help resolve the issue before payroll is processed.
Once you’ve completed the steps above, watch the video below for a step-by-step walkthrough of the payroll process. This video covers the most important aspects of running payroll and answers many common questions.

How to Export Payroll Info
FrontRunner gives you two ways to review and export payroll data.
Option 1: Export by Individual Team Member
- Go to the Bonus tab.
- Select the month, or filter the date range for the payroll period you are running.
- Select the team member from the drop-down menu.
- Review the bonus and commission totals at the top of the page.
- Export the payroll information for that individual team member for your records.
Option 2: Export a Summary for the Entire Team
- Go to the Bonus tab.
- Click Financial Payouts.
- From the upper-left drop-down menu, select the payroll date.
- Review the financial payouts for your entire team.
- If needed, filter by team member using the Search Team Member field.
- When ready, select Approve All Payouts
- Select one of the export options to create a report for your records.
What is Paid & Locked?
Paid & Locked is an optional setting that locks all sales for the selected payroll period, preventing any changes that would increase or decrease bonus calculations after the period has been locked. It is not required for running payroll.
For example, if January is locked and a team member needs to issue a sale with a January issue date, you would first need to unlock that payroll period before making the change.
- If payroll for January has not been processed yet, you can unlock the period, make the necessary changes, allow the system time to recalculate, and then lock the period again.
- If payroll for January has already been processed, you typically would not want to issue the sale in January, since that payroll period has already been paid out. Instead, the sale should usually be issued in the current payroll period.
- Because payroll scenarios can vary, please contact FrontRunner Support if you are unsure how a specific sale should be handled.
If you need to issue a policy with a date from a locked period, you must first unlock that period before the change can be made. Only Agents, Admins, or users with permission to lock/unlock sales can make this change.
- Go to the Bonus tab.
- Go to the month in question.
- Uncheck Paid & Locked.
- Click Submit.
- Return to the Sales tab and issue the policy.
| Before submitting payroll, please ensure you have reviewed and approved any pending time punches that were manually submitted or edited by your team, as those will need your approval before the system includes those hours in the total hours worked.
